Created in collaboration with Attik Design, The Picnic Collection captures the whimsy, nostalgia, and warmth of outdoor living through a series of beautiful handwoven rugs.
Inspired by the original picnic rug created for ATTIK Design’s Provençal Living interior project in France, the collection builds on a longstanding creative relationship and a shared love of pushing the boundaries of colour, texture, and pattern.
Each seasonal design has been reimagined in four distinct seasonal colourways. Inspired by the shifting palette and mood of nature throughout the year, the collection feels, in ATTIK Design’s words, “bold, layered, and intentional,” with colour used to “evoke emotion and create atmosphere rather than simply decorate.”
With gingham-inspired patterns and earthy tones, these rugs call to mind fresh grass beneath bare feet, dappled sunlight through rustling trees, and the feeling of slow living, with nowhere to be but the present moment.
A Conversation with Attik DESIGN
What do you love most about this design, both visually and in the way it feels within a space?
The Picnic rug was designed for a client’s home in the south of France, specifically for a cinema room that opens onto a beautiful garden. The space is layered with modular, movable furniture, and we wanted to introduce something expressive and unexpected, almost like artwork on the floor.
What I love most is the sense of playfulness it brings. It visually lifts the room while also creating a strong connection to the exterior, drawing in the colours and vibrancy of the landscape and extending them into the interior in a way that feels both relaxed and considered.
How do you feel the Picnic Collection reflects your approach to colour and pattern?
The Picnic Collection really embodies our approach to colour and pattern. It’s bold, layered, and intentional, but always grounded in context. We’re drawn to compositions that feel expressive yet balanced, where colour is used to evoke emotion and create atmosphere rather than simply decorate.
There’s a sense of looseness and play, but it’s carefully curated to ensure it enhances the space rather than overwhelms it.
What do you feel makes your creative relationship with Coral + Hive work so well?
Our collaboration with Coral + Hive works so well because there’s a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, materiality, and storytelling through design.
There’s a mutual trust in the creative process, which allows ideas to evolve freely while still being executed with precision and care. They bring a deep technical understanding and quality to the making, which complements our conceptual approach. It’s a very natural synergy.
THE COLLECTION BY SEASON
SPRING
Mossy greens, rosy pinks and berry shades evoke the earthy freshness of spring, when new life appears and gardens begin to blossom once again.
SUMMER
Soft sage and breezy shades recall the charm of summer picnics in the countryside, beneath vivid blue skies.
AUTUMN
Warm and enveloping, this design draws on rich russets and deeper woodland tones as leaves begin to turn and the air grows cooler.
WINTER
Icy blues, deep navy and warming camel tones capture winter in all its contrast, with crisp air and pale light balanced by the comfort of crackling fires indoors.
Guided by the colours of the natural world and the changing rhythm of the seasons, The Picnic Collection embraces a more mindful, grounded way of living.
At its heart, the collection reflects the creative connection between ATTIK Design and Coral + Hive, rooted in a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, materiality, and storytelling through design.
