Coral + Hive and Shellegance come together in a vibrant collaboration celebrating the ocean, colour, and craft. Rooted in a shared love of coastal beauty and traditional techniques, this collection brings to life a series of expressive, ocean-inspired rugs.
The collaboration pairs Lucie de Moyencourt’s whimsical ceramic shells with Coral + Hive’s soulful weaving aesthetic. Known for her sculptural, hand-painted pieces, Lucie’s playful yet considered designs find new form in richly woven textiles. Invited to Coral + Hive’s Cape Town studio, the creative process unfolded organically, blending Lucie’s artistry with Jeannine Birch’s intuitive design approach.
Each rug is woven in India using traditional techniques and fine natural fibres. Highlights include The Wave, crafted in pure wool with a border echoing Lucie’s signature shell motifs; Kelp Forest, a vivid mix of wool and jute inspired by underwater gardens; and Coral Fields, a soft interplay of pink tones drawn from beachside rock pools.
Imaginative and carefully crafted, the collection reflects a shared respect for process, play, and the natural world. A portion of proceeds supports ocean restoration initiatives, a tribute to the marine environments that inspired each piece.
